Barratt Homes will be delivering the residential element of the project. They will be introducing their new range of housing, specifically designed to meet the needs of the 21st Century.
The masterplan includes the development of around 300 high quality 1, 2 and 3-bedroom homes. In addition, a proportion of these will be specifically designated as 'affordable' housing.
We want to provide homes that will help Newhaven to continue as a modern sustainable community. The homes on the site will be designed to provide a real opportunity for local people to get onto the property ladder.
In keeping with the theme of modern living, the homes will be of contemporary design and will have regard to the nautical heritage of the area in the use of materials and elevational treatment. We want good design and sustainable development to be the hallmarks of this new community.
An innovative energy strategy will be proposed for the scheme, following the principle 'Be Lean, Be Clean, Be Green'. A percentage of on-site renewable energy is likely to be provided through a combination of photovoltaic and solar thermal panels, and air-source heat pumps. In addition, energy efficient gas condensing boilers would feature in the new homes, along with rainwater capture techniques, such as rainwater butts. Sustainable building materials would be used during construction and sourced locally wherever possible.
