Local Products

ASDA is proud to take a lead in making locally sourced and produced goods available in the vast majority of our stores. By forging relationships with local producers we are able to bring our customers the best products that are grown, reared or manufactured in their region. Giving our customers the opportunity to choose local products not only supports local businesses and economies but also reduces food miles.

In the South East we have a local sourcing hub based at Invicta Produce in Ramsgate Kent, which supplies a range of quality products including milk, free range eggs and fresh fruit to stores across the region. Other products, for example local ales, are delivered direct to stores.

Local produce

More than 90% of the meat and fresh produce we sell comes from British farmers.
We are the only supermarket to use local ‘hubs’ which link small local suppliers into regional distribution networks, allowing them to get their products into ASDA stores.
ASDA won the Business Initiative of the Year Award at the Grocer Gold Awards 2008 for its local sourcing network.
Our nine local hubs work with over 500 local suppliers. In total, we have over 5,000 local products in our stores.

Local suppliers

61% of our local suppliers across the UK employ less than 20 people.
Our ASDA magazine has a readership of nearly four million people and we give our local suppliers free advertising space to promote their products to our customers and colleagues.
We ask all our customers and colleagues to suggest local products to us so that we can consider selling them in our stores.
